FENG SHUI IN INTERIOR DESIGN
FENG SHUI, which literally means ‘wind’ and ‘water’, is the ancient art of furniture placement and energy flow in the home and which has been practised successfully in China for several thousand years. This ancient Chinese philosophy demonstrates a way of life that is becoming increasingly popular again in modern times throughout the Western world. Feng Shui emanates from the Chinese religion of Taoism, which claims that everything in the universe revolves around a cosmic life force known as ‘Chi’. This cosmic energy is itself divided up into two parts, referred to as Yin & Yang. Some basics of Feng Shui principals produce positive steps towards to a successful Interior Design such as:-
- Clear the clutter, this will allow Yang energy to enter and flow through the home. Plan a well-designed storage system.
- Lighting is vital & it is one of the most effective ways to enhance your Interiors. The flattering light effects can make small or uninviting areas feel alive, welcoming and tranquil. Good lighting helps stimulate the general flow of energy and gives balance and harmony within the home.

Illuminated crystal chandeliers with distinct ‘layers’ of light are excellent for creating good Chi. |

- Candles as a kinetic source of lighting in the living room or bedroom, will bring in some positive Yang energy
- Enhance Yin with a relaxing and warm décor, soft furnishings and relaxing music
- In the Kitchen, ensure that opposite the oven there is no refrigerator, washing machine, washbasin or toilet. The fire and water crash causing family members to have disagreements & if this is incorrectly placed it can bring great misfortune
- The bedroom needs to be calm, for restoring energy. Always have a solid wall behind the bed.
- Tables/desks and chairs in the Office should be in a harmonious position so that Chi is able to flow smoothly.
