Lighting sources for your Interiors
Do you know that in Spain MP’s approved a proposal that will lead to a ban on conventional light bulbs by 2011?
Did you know that the State of California in the USA may become the first American State followed by other states to ban incandescent light bulbs by 2012 so as to reduce energy use?
Did you know that Australia will stop selling this source of lighting in 2010? Ontario in Canada by 2012? The list will carry on and on.
Did you know that this soft, yellow light generated through a filament of tungsten wire will last only 1000 hours and only about 5% of the energy consumed is converted into light, the rest is lost as heat? Our electricity bills won’t tell us about all of this!!!
One of the ways to reduce our costly everyday living is to install at least 25% of all your household light sources with energy efficient Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs, known as CFL. In commercial premises the energy efficient lighting becomes a major issue.
CFL lamps last ten times longer, they use 75% less energy and they produce 75% less heat, compared to incandescent bulbs; over their lifetime, they prevent half a Tonne of Carbon Dioxide from entering the atmosphere; so with this type of lighting & others similar types coming onto the market, let’s contribute to making our planet greener.
However, remember that low-energy fluorescent lamps can pose a disposal problem as they contain toxic heavy metals. Contact Local Authorities for details of Hazardous-Waste Collection Centres.
As the variety of lighting products available has broadened, it is important how best to utilize them: the most cost-effective solution is to buy the best quality you can & to fit them professionally.
